Halmahera Island in the North Moluccas is known as one of Indonesia’s most fascinating Islands. This K-shaped island is not only famous for its precious spices that attracted early traders from Europe, it also has the largest density of active volcanoes of any region in Indonesia. Among of those volcanoes are Mount Ibu – Mother Mountain- and Mount Dukono, 2 of the most spectacular volcanoes in Indonesia which have been in persistent activity for years.
Those two spectacular volcanoes offer a remarkable experience which well worth visiting by hikers and volcano enthusiasts. At mount Ibu, hikers could see a fantastic crater view with impressive live eruptions and the enormous plumes of smoke along with an eruption every 30 minutes or so.
In clear weather, at night, you can see an amazing orange lava glow every time this happens. The views and the sounds are utterly breathtaking. While at Mt Dukono as we reach near the crater rim, we’re welcomed by a roar like jet planes taking off, which create an awesomely unique feeling of astounding and frightening at the same time.
