Halmahera Volcano Adventure – Mount Gamkonora & Mount Dukono

Due to high volcanic activity at Mt. Ibu, our adventure now takes you to two of Halmahera’s most spectacular volcanoes: Mount Gamkonora (1,574 m) and Mount Dukono (1,229 m). Gamkonora, the highest peak in North Maluku, offers a rewarding 12 km round-trip hike with sweeping ocean and island views, while Dukono is famous for its constant eruptions, with a 10 km trek leading to its roaring crater and dramatic smoke plumes.

Note Before Hiking Mount Dukono and Mount Gamkonora
  • Gunung Gamkonora and Gunung Dukono showcase two very different volcanic characters in Halmahera. Gamkonora, the island’s highest peak, is relatively quiet and offers rewarding hikes with sweeping views over the ocean and neighboring islands. Dukono, on the other hand, is among the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, with its crater constantly rumbling and sending up dramatic plumes of smoke. Approaching the crater requires helmets and caution, but the experience of witnessing its raw power is truly unforgettable
