Adventure Details

From the summit of Mount Kerinci (3,805 m), Indonesia’s highest volcano, to the untouched rainforests of Siberut Island, this journey reveals the remarkable diversity of Sumatra through its landscapes, cultures, and traditions. Trek through tropical montane forests to the summit of Kerinci for unforgettable sunrise views stretching across the vast expanse of Kerinci Seblat National Park, home to some of Southeast Asia’s richest biodiversity.

Continue west to Siberut Island, where you’ll step into one of the world’s oldest surviving rainforest cultures. Meet the Mentawai people, whose deep spiritual connection with nature has shaped their way of life for generations. Stay in a traditional Uma, walk through pristine jungle trails, learn about their customs, and experience a culture that has remained closely intertwined with the forest for centuries.

In the Minangkabau Highlands, witness the exhilarating Pacu Jawi, a centuries-old post-harvest tradition where farmers race pairs of buffalo through muddy rice fields. More than a competition, this extraordinary spectacle reflects the agricultural heritage and strong communal spirit of the Minangkabau people, offering one of Indonesia’s most authentic cultural experiences.

Step inside a traditional Rumah Gadang, where the iconic horn-shaped roofs symbolize the philosophy, history, and matrilineal traditions of the Minangkabau people. Continue to the charming highland town of Bukittinggi, surrounded by volcanoes and dramatic landscapes, where colonial architecture, bustling markets, and historic landmarks reveal the cultural heart of West Sumatra.

Slow the pace in Padang’s historic Old Town, where colonial-era buildings, traditional coffee shops, lively markets, and a bustling waterfront tell the story of one of Sumatra’s oldest trading ports. Savor authentic Minangkabau cuisine, including the world-famous rendang and other regional specialties, before exploring the city’s vibrant culinary scene and scenic coastline.

From volcanic summits to remote tribal villages, experience the landscapes, cultures, traditions, and flavors that make Sumatra truly unforgettable.

Authentic Mentawai Experience: Your stay in the Mentawai village is designed to be a genuine cultural immersion. Life is lived in a traditional way, with very basic facilities and minimal modern conveniences. Accommodation: You will stay in a traditional Uma (Mentawai communal house). There are no private bedrooms; instead, guests sleep together in the communal space. Camping mattresses and mosquito nets will be provided for your comfort. Sanitation: Modern toilets and bathrooms are not available in the village. As the local community does, bathing and other daily hygiene activities take place at the nearby river. Meals: All meals are freshly prepared using traditional cooking methods with locally sourced ingredients. Electricity & Mobile Signal: There is no electricity and no mobile phone reception or internet access in the village, offering a rare opportunity to completely disconnect from the modern world. Trail Conditions: Rainforest trails and the surrounding area can be muddy, slippery, and uneven, especially after rain. Good trekking shoes and a sense of adventure are essential.
