Perhaps you would enjoy one of Java’s most active volcanoes Mount Kelud, the breath-taking views of Green Bay white sand beach, camping at  Ranu Kumbolo lake which located in the heart of Bromo Semeru Tengger National Park  or you would enjoy hike through wonderful nature at Gede Pangrango National Park, or even escape to one of the most wild trail running routes in Central Java.

1. Gede Pangrango National Park, Cianjur, West Java

Gede Pangrango National Park is the nearest 3,000meters volcanic peak from the capital of Indonesia, Jakarta. During normal traffic it takes two and half hours (97 km from Jakarta) to reach the park information centre at Cibodas,  West Java.

The parks is on of the oldest nature preserve area in Indonesia. Starting around 1819 when the kolonial Dutch goverment considering to build a botanical garden at the foot of the mountains in Cibodas. Many natural scientist had climbed the twin peaks, among other Junghun whom introduced quinine plant to the Archipelago. You can do hiking, trail running or simply enjoying the alpine nature of Indonesia volcanic scenes.

Recommended itinerary for this program: Start early on Saturday morning from Jakarta at 5 AM to beat the traffic, transfer to Mount Gede National Park at Cibodas for re-registration and simple medical checkup approximately 2 hours drive. Start trekking from Gunung Putri entry point to Suryakencana Meadow, and overnight camping at Suryakencana. Early start at 3:30 AM from the campsite for summit bid on Sunday morning, enjoy the sunrise and crater view then trek down via Cibodas route, and drive back to Jakarta

2. Mount Kelud, Kediri, East Java

Mount Kelud is one of East Java’s most active volcanoes, with a summit elevation at 1731m above sea level. It is famous for its magnificent sunrise views and the panorama over the large crater that contains lake. This is one of our recommended programs for outdoor weekend adventure, whereby you can pamper yourself with beautiful outdoor scenery, witness the amazing view of one of the most beautiful volcanoes in East Java from short distance. Tulung Rejo village, 650 meter above sea level, is the entry point of Mount Kelud, located at about 120 km (approximately 3 hours drive)  from the nearest airport, Juanda International airport in Surabaya.

The dry season is the recommended time to visit Mt Kelud. Hiking during rainy season should expect a less perfect sunrise views due to the fog.

Recommended itinerary for this program: Take the first flight to Surabaya on Saturday morning then transfer to Mount Kelud entry point at Tulung Rejo village in Blitar, approximately 3 hours drive. Start trekking to camp 3, overnight camping. Early start at 3:30 AM on Sunday morning for summit bid. Descend down to Tulung Rejo village, drive back to Surabaya then take a flight back to Jakarta

3. Mount Lawu 3,265m trekking/trail running

Straddles the southern border of East and Central Java and is one of the holiest mountains in Javanese belief. And as well as a plethora of myth and legend, this sleeping volcano also offers one of the wild trail running routes in Central Java with beautiful  savannah, pine forest scenery and a magnificent mountainous landscape.   

Recommended itinerary for this program: Take the first flight to Surakarta on Saturday morning then transfer to Mount Lawu entry point at Candi Cetho Village in Karang Anyar, approximately 2 hours drive. Start trekking to camp 3, overnight camping. Early start at 3:30 AM on Sunday morning for summit bid. Descend down to Candi Cetho village, drive back to Surakarta then take a flight back to Jakarta

4. Green Bay or Teluk Hijau Beach then Mount Ijen Hike

Banyuwangi in the eastern of Java has countless of beautiful beaches, one of them is Green Bay or Teluk Hijau beach, the breath-taking views of turquoise water and a shoreline of white grains of sand backed by beautiful lush green forest at Teluk Hijau of Meru Betiri National park. Then finish your weekend adventure with Mount Ijen hike on the next day. Ijen  is Java’s volcanic wonder that attract hundreds of visitors every day to witness the spectacular crater lake of Kawah Ijen and beautiful mountain scenery. The active stratovolcano that sits at 2,799 above sea level is the world’s largest acidic volcanic crater with turquoise Crater Lake.

The recommended itinerary for this program: Take the first flight to Banyuwangi from Jakarta 5:30 AM with Citilink on Saturday morning, flight duration 1 hour and 45 minutes. Visit the Green Bay or Teluk Hijau beach, approximately 3 hours drive from Blimbingsari and 20-30 minutes boat ride. Overnight hotel in Banyuwangi. Early start at 1 AM on Sunday morning from your hotel for Mount Ijen hike, then drive to Paltuding, the entry point of Mt Ijen.  Trekking to Ijen crater to see the amazing blue fire, then continue to Ijen sunrise point afterward. Back to hotel then transfer back to airport for 12.25 pm flight back to Jakarta with Garuda Indonesia.

5. Camping at Ranu Kumbolo lake

The splendid volcanic lake of Ranu Kumbolo is located in the heart of Bromo Semeru Tengger National Park, which is surrounded by stunning green hills and savanna. This beautiful lake, is a rendezvous point for those who are looking for peace and tranquility, which makes Ranu Kumbolo as the main camping point for trekkers heading to the peak of Mount Semeru. In the morning, at the moment you open your eyes, you’ll be greeted by mystical and mesmerizing sunrise, and beautiful lake view with layers of mist blanketing the lake. Serene and magical.

Recommended itinerary for this program: Take the first flight to Malang on Saturday morning, then transfer to Tumpang, quick stop at local clinic in Tumpang for simple medical checkup, afterward continue with two hours jeep ride to Ranupane, the entry point of Mount Semeru National Park, then starts trekking to Ranu Kumbolo lake, it takes approximately 3 hours with average speed. Overnight camping near the turquoise water of Ranu Kumbolo lake.  

Enjoy the lovely morning and big breakfast at the campsite, after that walk back to Ranupane Village then continue with jeep ride to Tumpang and transfer you back to Airport for 3.10 pm flight back to Jakarta with Sriwijaya Air.

6. Mount Merbabu sunrise trekking

Mount Merbabu 3,145 meters above sea level  is a dormant stratovolcano located in Central Java. The spectacular views from the summit are said to be some of the best in Indonesia with many other mountains visible from the peak, as well as the lush green farmland of Boyolali and Salatiga. The best time to view this otherworldly scene is sunrise and the summit offers excellent panoramic views.

Recommended itinerary for this program: Fly from Jakarta to either Surakarta or Yogyakarta on Saturday. From airport then transfer to Selo village, in Boyolali, the entry point of Mount Merbabu, 2-3 hours drive. Start trekking at midnight to the top of Mount Merbabu, approximately 5 hours trekking with an average pace. Enjoy the sunrise then descend down to Selo Village (approximately 3 hours trekking), drive back to Surakarta or Yogyakarta then take a flight back to Jakarta
